Cepsa and Iberia have sealed a new strategic alliance for the development and production of biofuels for aircraft whose origin won’t affect the environment and biodiversity. This coalition is benefitial for both companies and it will be a first stone on their way to sustainable air transport.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Why did Cepsa and Iberia signed an alliance? <\/span><\/h2>\n

In the words of Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Cepsa: <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe share with the Iberia Group the common goal of promoting the decarbonisation of transport as a tool to combat climate change\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition, sustainable aviation fuels are currently scarce and expensive, so it is in the interest of both companies to establish a joint strategy. Cepsa becomes a supplier, and Iberia secures its preferential access. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to the International Air Transport Association<\/a>, global aviation contribute to global warming with around 2% of emissions. That is why, looking to the future, companies in the sector must do everything they can to make it better.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does the agreement include? <\/span><\/h2>\n

One of the main objectives of this agreement is to follow a roadmap to promote the use of sustainable fuels for aviation. This roadmap will allow a progressive transition to full decarbonization. <\/span><\/p>\n

Also, according to the agreement, electric aircraft and engines powered by green hydrogen will also play an important role in these two companies’ race against climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is this good news? <\/span><\/h2>\n

Cepsa is one of the leaders in the supply of fuel for aviation in Spain, and Iberia is also one of the most important airlines in the country. <\/span><\/p>\n

The fact that such important companies make decisions on a global scale for the sustainability of their activities is good news for the environment and also for the users. <\/span><\/p>\n
